KTM’s future as both a manufacturer and a MotoGP outfit will be determined in a matter of weeks as their restructuring plan nears its assessment date.

Since entering self-administration in November there have been rumours of numerous takeover deals for the MotoGP manufacturer, including suggestions of an investment from Lewis Hamilton in KTM.

With the Austrian outfit keen to make a deal for the whole company, rather than their MotoGP division, talks seemed to stall.

KTM has an eagerly awaited meeting with creditors to propose a restructuring plan on February 25, where they will discover the fate of their 2025 season and beyond.

They must satisfy the relevant parties that they are going to be capable of paying a portion of their debts off within the next two years.

KTM has already cut a staggering number of employees, with 2,000 staff let go in a bid to save cash in various areas of the business.

KTM insiders ‘convinced’ restructuring plans will succeed amid £1.8 billion insolvency proceedings

The first official test of the 2025 MotoGP season in Malaysia came and went as KTM appeared to run without any hindrance.

Enea Bastianini fears KTM are missing speed after the Sepang test after testing for Tech3, but they still have another test at Buriram before the start of the season in a few weeks.

His colleague, on the other hand, appears just as worried. Pedro Acosta’s facial expression showed fear over the state of KTM’s bike after the end of the first test.

Claims filed by creditors total £1.8 billion according to Autosport, but their restructuring plan will be designed to tackle that number.

GPOne reports that insiders at KTM are ‘convinced’ their plan will succeed, securing the future of the manufacturer and MotoGP team for the time being.

It’s a promising development for the team and Acosta’s hopes of being a dark horse candidate for the riders’ championship in 2025.

Enea Bastianini may have to do what he has never done after studying Pedro Acosta’s KTM data

Taking a step from Ducati’s factory operation to KTM’s satellite Tech3 team is a big jump for Bastianini after riding the sport’s most dominant bike in 2024.

Ducati swept 36/40 race victories as their bikes claimed all the championships. They decided that Bastianini’s performance wasn’t to their expected standard and dropped him in favour of Marc Marquez for 2025.

After rushing to find a deal, he signed with Tech3 last summer. Carlo Pernat would’ve ripped up Bastianini’s ‘fraudulent’ KTM deal after finding out about their financial situation in the winter, but he isn’t the Italian’s agent anymore.

Instead, he has to focus on extracting the most that he can from their bike in a bid to be competitive this season.

Bastianini may have to mimic Acosta’s KTM setup after looking at his colleague’s data and discovering that there is more pace to be found.

The highest-placed bike on the final day of the Sepang test was Acosta, who managed sixth. They will be hoping for more than that at the season-opening Thailand Grand Prix at the end of February.
