Aprilia’s preparation for the 2025 MotoGP season was dealt a major blow just hours into the Sepang Test after Jorge Martin suffered a big accident.
Martin has been ruled out for the remainder of the test and faces an extended recovery period. He’s a doubt for the first race of the season in Thailand at the end of February.
It means that Aprilia will be relying on Marco Bezzecchi to lead their efforts and provide strong feedback for the rest of the test while his teammate races to return to full fitness again.
Marc Marquez called Martin’s Sepang crash ‘very strange’ and couldn’t understand how he managed to highside on a part of the track with a lot of grip.
Regardless of their status as rivals, Marquez sent Martin an emotional recovery message and wished his fellow countryman the best in getting well again soon.
Another MotoGP championship rival was surprised by the incident too, with Francesco Bagnaia calling Martin’s crash ‘insane’.

Marco Bezzecchi ‘didn’t feel like’ bothering Jorge Martin after Sepang crash
Day two of the Sepang Test was a slightly better affair for the Italian manufacturer, as Bezzecchi finished ninth of the 22 runners.
Another promising note includes one Michelin manager noticing that Martin was outpacing his rivals before his heavy crash.
The 27-year-old suffered fractures in his right hand and left foot, and will require surgery to move ahead with his recovery.

Speaking about the ordeal, his teammate told GPOne that he didn’t want to bother him personally so soon after the incident had happened.
“Personally not. We sent him a video yesterday, but as far as I’m concerned I don’t want to bother him,” said Bezzecchi. “I didn’t feel like it, he was there with his dad and today he has a long journey to face.
“And then it would bother me if someone wrote me who knows what and then I preferred not to disturb him. I’ll write to him later to find out how he is.”
Aprilia sent Jorge Martin to hospital following Sepang crash after ‘great pain’
It was a disaster opening day for Aprilia’s new partnership with the reigning champion, who is running the number one on his bike this season.
Martin may have been paid extra to run the number one by Aprilia, with some advantages to being able to show off the exclusive accolade.
Falling off his bike his new bike once on the first day of testing wasn’t the end of the world for the Spaniard, who quickly recovered and continued to show some promising pace.

After his second accident, Aprilia sent Martin to the hospital after gestures of ‘great pain’ who are eager to avoid losing their superstar rider for an extended period.
If he can participate in the Thailand Grand Prix, he will have little experience on his new bike and won’t be at 100% capacity. It’s going to be a dent in their championship campaign before it has started.
