Jorge Martin will be sidelined for the rest of pre-season testing in Malaysia after suffering a huge crash on day one.

The Spaniard was taking part in his first outing as an Aprilia rider on the RS-GP25. Optimism was high within the team for a successful session, but that came to an abrupt halt after a severe accident for the defending champion.

Martin suffered a violent highside at turn two and was sent crashing to the ground, breaking his visor on impact. It was the second accident the Spaniard was involved in on day one of testing.

The 26-year-old was taken to hospital for checks after he complained of pain in his right hand and left foot, as well as taking a huge knock to the head.

It was later confirmed that Martin would miss the rest of testing in Malaysia due to the injuries sustained. He becomes the second Aprilia rider to be ruled out of further runs after Trackhouse’s Raul Fernandez broke his hand in a crash earlier in the day.

Mauro Grassilli says MotoGP need Jorge Martin back ‘immediately’ after Sepang crash

Teammate Marco Bezzecchi is not sure why Martin crashed, and why other riders suffered incidents on day one. Other notable names include Fabio Di Giannantonio and Pedro Acosta.

Speaking on the Midday Live stream on MotoGP’s official YouTube channel, Ducati sporting director Mauro Grassilli offered his instant reaction to Martin’s crash.

The Spaniard won the 2024 title with the Ducati satellite team Pramac over Francesco Bagnaia. Grassilli says MotoGP need Martin back ‘immediately’ as he wished him the best in his recovery.

“I mean I saw the video a few minutes ago, it was very dramatic. I mean the crash was so high”, he said.

“And I feel sorry for him. I will think all the best for him [to] come back here very, very soon because we need him. All the sport need him immediately.

“Forza Jorge”.

What the Ducati riders have said about Jorge Martin’s crash

Martin will be a huge blow for Aprilia for the rest of the sessions in Malaysia. The Noale-based manufacturer are now left with Bezzecchi and Ai Ogura for Thursday and Friday.

Bagnaia says Martin’s crash was ‘insane’ as he hopes he is feeling well after the dramatic incident. The Italian missed out on the title last season to the 26-year-old by just 10 points.

Ducati teammate Marc Marquez had an emotional message for Martin as he sent a ‘big hug’ to his fellow compatriot.

Davide Tardozzi says Martin is Ducati’s biggest threat to the title in 2025. The defending champion will be looking to get back on track as soon as possible to battle at the front with Aprilia.
