Trackhouse Racing MotoGP team name

The Trackhouse Racing MotoGP team gained their name as an offshoot of the Trackhouse Entertainment Group for which founder Justin Marks created the entry. Trackhouse Racing is also the name of the group’s entries across both MotoGP and the NASCAR Cup Series.

Trackhouse Racing MotoGP founding year

Justin Marks, the founder of the Trackhouse Entertainment Group, founded the Trackhouse Racing MotoGP team ahead of the 2024 season after taking over the RNF Racing operation.

Marks established the Trackhouse Entertainment Group in 2020 after retiring from competing as a sports car and a NASCAR driver. The NASCAR Cup Series moving to a more economical model also tempted Marks to establish Trackhouse as a racing team for the 2021 campaign.

The Trackhouse teams do not operate like most motorsport outfits as Marks gives a priority to bringing innovative ideas to the series his crews compete in – such as having LED screens and live entertainment on their NASCAR race haulers, plus a creative line of merchandising.

The Trackhouse Entertainment Group debuted with its own MotoGP team in 2024 after RNF Racing lost their place on the premier class grid. The FIM, IRTA and Dorna Sports announced Trackhouse Racing would replace RNF Racing as a satellite Aprilia team in December 2023.

Trackhouse Racing were successful in applying to replace RNF Racing as a new independent entry with two Aprilia bikes after the FIM, IRTA and Dorna Sports decided against renewing RNF’s contract. RNF were found to have breached the Participation Agreement for MotoGP.

RNF Racing only competed in MotoGP for two years before Trackhouse Racing took over the Malaysian entry. The lineage of Trackhouse also stretches beyond RNF, as the team’s origins stretch back to the Sepang Racing Team (SRT) which the Sepang International Circuit owned.

SRT started out in 2015 as a Moto3 team before expanding into Moto2 in 2018 and MotoGP running satellite Yamaha bikes in 2019. Yamaha also provided factory support to SRT to field Franco Morbidelli in 2019, Fabio Quartararo in 2020 and racing icon Valentino Rossi in 2021.

Morbidelli was even the top Yamaha rider in the 2020 MotoGP standings with second place, just 13 points behind champion Joan Mir. SRT also won six MotoGP Grands Prix. But the loss of a title sponsorship deal with Malaysian oil giant Petronas saw SRT shut down after 2021.

Razlan Razali and Johan Stigefelt took over what remained of the SRT operation to remain in MotoGP as RNF Racing in the 2022 season. But the re-branded entry would not win another Grand Prix with Yamaha bikes in the 2022 campaign or after moving to Aprilia bikes in 2023.

The Trackhouse Entertainment Group also owns a NASCAR Cup Series team which operates out of their factory in Concord, North Carolina, but the Trackhouse MotoGP team does not.
