Fabio Di Giannantonio will be looking to bounce back in 2025 after injury ended his 2024 season early.

The Italian will embark on his fourth season in MotoGP this year. He has spent his entire career in the premier class as a satellite Ducati rider.

Di Giannantonio made the step from Moto2 in 2022 and joined Gresini Racing. After failing to score regular points in his rookie season, the 26-year-old found an extra gear in 2023, winning his first race in Qatar.

He finished 12th in the standings with 151 points before moving to VR46 for 2024. Di Giannantonio continued to show improvements with Ducati before his season came to an abrupt end.

Fabio Di Giannantonio says he will be ‘back on two wheels’ soon as he provides positive injury update

The Italian only finished outside the points three times from the first 18 Grand Prix and of his points finishes, only once did he finish outside the top 10.

The 26-year-old did not start the race in Austria after he suffered a huge crash in practice, dislocating his left shoulder – this would ultimately bring Di Giannantonio’s season to an end early.

The VR46 rider opted to miss the final two rounds of the season in Malaysia and Barcelona to have surgery on his shoulder and leave him in the best possible fitness for 2025.

Andrea Iannone and Michele Pirro replaced him for the final two rounds. Di Giannantonio recorded his best points tally in MotoGP with 165 points and finished 10th in the standings.

Posting on his Instagram account, the Italian was ‘impressed’ with how he has recovered. He is eyeing a return to the premier class after providing a positive update.

“Physio sessions have been my main duty last couple of months. We still have plenty of work to do but I’m impressed on how my body is reacting day by day. We keep on moving, soon we are back on two wheels”, he said.

How will Fabio Di Giannantonio fare on a full factory Ducati bike in 2025?

Di Giannantonio was rewarded with a two-year factory Ducati contract in August 2024 which runs until the end of 2026. The 26-year-old will remain with VR46 this season.

Alongside factory Ducati riders Francesco Bagnaia and Marc Marquez, Di Giannantonio will ride a full factory bike for the first time in MotoGP this season. He has taken the spot that was filled by Pramac last season.

The Italian has big shoes to fill this season after Jorge Martin won the 2024 championship with Pramac. Ducati have faith in Di Giannantonio with his performances last season and will be eager to continue improving in 2025.

Ducati won all but one race last season as they enjoyed another dominant year in the premier class. But Bagnaia thinks Pramac will be a big loss in 2025 after they signed an agreement with Yamaha to become their satellite team.
