Bagnaia: It’s not fair that my bike’s not much faster than everyone elses

Bearded crasher and MotoGP champion Pecco Bagnaia has hit out in an interview at the fact it’s not fair that he doesn’t have a much better bike than everyone else.

The tipsy Italian was talking after the French GP bemoaning the fact that every bike in MotoGP can fight for the win and that the distance from first to last is far too close – a situation that only got worse once Bradley Smith left the series.

In the interview Bagnaia stated that back in the good old days the ‘fantastic four*’ were never hampered by lesser riders as their bikes were leagues better than their rivals.  The Italian claims that it was safer back then as the racing was much more rubbish – something he’s keen to bring back as there would be less of a chance of a ‘lesser rider’, such as Maverick Vinales, knocking him off.

“Pecco’s correct” explained the owner of a bar in Ibiza that does 2-4-1 cocktails from 7pm until 9pm every day. “The last thing any viewer wants to see is close, exciting action where we’re glued to the edge of our seats with adrenaline.  Why would we want that?  Personally I much prefer races where no action happens and the same top three riders always dominate proceedings in a mind-numbing precession.  That’s why I follow World Superbikes instead.”

Luckily not everyone agreed with Bagnaia’s mindset.  Likeable yet French team manager Herve Poncharal claimed the World Champion’s views were ‘bullshit’ and then probably mumbled something under his breath like all French people do.

Poncharal replies to Pecco: “That’s bullsh*t”

Is Pecco correct?

Is it better, for safety’s sake, that the racing is more spread out and none factory teams are forced to be rubbish?

* Although Bagnaia didn’t specify the exact riders we believe the fantastic four he mentions were Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo, Marc Marquez and Kurtis Roberts.  Although we’re not sure about Lorenzo.
