Binder no.2 joins MotoGP for ‘22

There’s a famous South African proverb “I am so hungry I could steal a TV”.

What?

South African Moto3 hooligan Darryn Binder is set to skip the tricky Moto2 category and move straight to MotoGP next season with the new RNF Racing Yamaha team.

Hang on, who are RNF?

We’re not sure. Neither is Google. By all accounts it’s a few of the left-over employees from this season’s Petronas Yamaha team that have failed to find employment elsewhere. The team will be run by the Petronas ex-talisman Razlan Razali – a name the shares with an exotic middle-eastern spice mix.

What’s happened to Petronas Yamaha?

Earlier in the year Petronas announced they were pulling out of all GP sponsorship because of ‘austerity measures’ with the firm trying to suggest to us that they were the only oil and gas company on the planet that’s not making shit loads of money.

The real reason, however, is probably due to a lack of decent riders. In 2019 and 2020 the Petronas sponsored Sepang Racing Team enjoyed great success with their riders Fabio Quartararararo and Franco Morbidelli. In 2020 alone the team clocked up 6 wins and finished second in the championship.

But that success was about to change. In 2021 the team were forced to take on Valentino Rossi whilst losing Fabio Quartarararo – and as Rossi struggled to score points Fabio went on to win the championship. Meanwhile Franco Morbidelli got annoyed that he had a rubbish bike and took 6 months off claiming his knee hurt.

Whereas last season Sepang Racing Team finished second in the teams championship with 248 points they’re currently last-but-one with just 81 points.

So, in short, they’re really pissed off.

What about Darryn Binder?

Binder Jnr is currently competing in his 7th season in Moto3 and so far has amassed an unimpressive one win and six podiums. With Darryn’s success trajectory looking far shallower than Brad’s it looks certain the long hair lout will join the ‘less impressive younger brother’ list that notably includes Alex Marquez, Ralf Schumacher and Edmund Hitler.

However he is a very popular rider as he speaks English and has good teeth and long hair.

Who’ll be Binder’s teammate?

With Darryn being a talent that’s young, exciting and with good hair RNF wanted a rider to counter that – so who better than the old, dull, thinning Andrea Dovizioso?

Andrea’s already stepped into the Yamaha fold competing in the last three races to replace the disgraced Maverick Vinales. Worryingly though the Italian’s pace has been that of his teammate Valentino Rossi – which makes us think RNF signed him before they realised how slow he now is.

Three fun Darryn Binder facts:

  • Younger Binder is the first rider to jump from Moto3 straight to MotoGP since Jack Miller – and we all know how that turned out.
  • Earlier in the season Darryn Binder complained that the stewards were monitoring him much closer than the other riders and thus he was being given more penalties. Darryn also has the word “divebomb” in big letters on the arse of his leathers.
  • Despite being a South African sportsman neither he or his brother have ever been accused of shooting their girlfriend whilst she’s having a dump.
